| Greetings from San Francisco, California, home to Local 8 of the International Union of Elevator Constructors.
We are the mechanics, apprentices and helpers that build, maintain, repair, and modernize elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters,stage lifts, moving walks, wheelchair lifts and other vertical transportation equipment in Northern California and Nevada.
We are an AFL/CIO affiliated labor union. We provide bargaining unit representation, education, pension, medical, dental, vision plan and other traditional union services to our approximately 1200 members. |

NEXT IUEC GENERAL CONVENTION TO BE HELD IN SAN FRANCISCO

At the Local 8 General Meeting in March, the membership expressed a very positive interest in hosting the 30th General Convention in 2011. At the Local 8 Executive Board Meeting the previous night there was an even stronger enthusiasm to host a convention. After hearing from the officers and membership of Local 8, we notified the IUEC General Executive Board that Local 8 San Francisco would like to be considered for the event, along with the other Locals that requested consideration; Local 1 New York, Local 2 Chicago, Local 32 Atlanta, Local 71 Miami and Local 82 Vancouver.
At the Spring IUEC General Executive Board Meeting, the General Executive Board voted to have Local 8 San Francisco as the host Local for the 30th General Convention to be held in 2011. Now the work begins. We are developing a committee to work in concert with the International to hold such a prestigious event. We have already created a list of hotels in San Francisco that could accommodate our needs. Soon, our IUEC General Officers will perform site visits at the hotels for consideration. It is an extreme honor to host this event, and our Local 8 membership seems excited at the opportunity of showing off our beautiful City and the Northern California area to our extended IUEC family.
