The Northern California Elevator Constructors Apprentice Program is NOT accepting applications at this time. We only accept applications during an open recruitment. We do not anticipate opening a new recruitment until sometime in 2011. This website will be updated as information changes, so please check back with us at a later time for future opportunities.
For those applicants currently on the ranking list:
Applicants currently on the ranked list have received notice of their initial ranking. The Northern California Elevator Constructors Apprenticeship program applicant list is under the jurisdiction of the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee. Questions to IUEC Local 8 regarding current placement on the list will not be answered. You will be notified when a job is available and you are eligible for dispatch. The only phone calls that will be returned are those that were initiated by a member of the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee to an applicant. For answers to the most frequently asked questions, please read below.
FAQ’s:
Q. When will I be called?
A. We do not know, as all hiring is on an as needed basis. You will be notified only when a job becomes available.
Q. How long will I have to decide to take a job?
A. We have 72 hours to dispatch an apprentice. If you do not let us know immediately that you want and are available for the job, we must move on to the next person.
Q. Will I get a job in the city I live in?
A. Our local's jurisdiction runs from Bakersfield to the Oregon border. There is no guarantee where the next job opening will come up, though the majority of the work is in the SF Bay Area. You can be dispatched ANYWHERE in our jurisdiction, and we have no control over where an employer will need someone. This means that someone that lives in Sacramento can very likely be hired to work in San Francisco. That's the nature of the trade.
Q. What happens if I turn down a job?
A. You will be allowed to turn down one job opportunity. After the second turn down, you will be subject to removal from the list, and must apply at a future recruitment to be eligible again. Unreturned phone calls regarding jobs may be considered a turndown.
Q. What if I want to give my current employer 2 weeks notice?
A. Again, we’ve only 72 hours to dispatch, so it up to you to make the decision.
